What experience do I need?

You don’t need any previous experience in design just enthusiasm and a passion for interiors! We start from the basics and gradually build your skills, knowledge and confidence. You will need basic computer skills and the ability to navigate the internet.

 

Will I receive an accredited qualification?

Interior Design Online is a partner of Sydney Design School who is accredited by the Australian Skills Quality Authority. Once you complete the Cert IV or Diploma course you’ll receive a Certificate and a Statement of Attainment. This qualification is internationally recognised and will allow you to work as a professional Interior Decorator or Designer.

If I enrol and pay online now when would I start?

Once you’ve purchased your first unit online you will receive a confirmation email and shortly afterwards a unique login to our eCampus. Then you can start studying! Your Design or Colour Kit will be sent by recorded post as soon as possible.

What is the quickest timeframe that I can complete the online course?

We estimate that it will take minimum of 12 months to complete the Cert IV course, 24 months for the Diploma course and around 3 months to finish the Colour for Interiors Masterclass online. You will need to spend approximately 10 hours per week studying to complete the work in that time frame.

Do you offer instalments or a payment plan that could help me in paying my fees?

The great news is you do not have to pay in full for your course. Each unit is paid for separately and therefore the upfront cost is much less.

If you pay for the Certificate IV in full you will receive a 10% discount. 

What computer experience, equipment and programs will I need for this course?

You will need basic computer knowledge and the ability to navigate the Internet. In terms of equipment you will need a computer or laptop with Microsoft Office, access to the Internet (preferably broadband), access to an printer (Min 1000+ DPI) and a digital camera or phone. You are going to be required to upload your assessments as a PDF so you will require software on your phone such as Turbo Scan or Genius Scan.

Will I get much assistance with the course, or is it all self-directed?

The course is self paced, however you do have a maximum of 6 months to complete each unit of study. There is a dedicated Educator working with each student. If you have any questions while you are studying you can email your Educator. Additionally we will also provide support through face to face meetings via SKYPE and telephone discussions.

What happens after I finish each unit?

When you finish a unit and all tasks have been marked competent you will be able to pay for the next unit via our eCampus.

How are the practical components/assessments marked and assessed?

You upload your assessments to the eCampus and your Educator will provide you with constructive feedback. You have your own ‘Grade Book’ on the online campus that only you can view- this provides an overview of your results.

Do I send my work in by email or post to be checked?

No, all of your work is uploaded to the eCampus to be assessed. If you are required to do additional work your Educator will provide you with guidance via the eCampus, email or phone.

Do online students have the opportunity to come in to Sydney Design School for assistance with content or assessments should they be struggling online?

Although everything is delivered online students can make an appointment at any stage to come in to Sydney Design School to meet with one of our Educators or request a SKYPE meeting

Will I need any textbooks? If so which ones? Are they be included in the initial fees or will they be extra? If they are extra how much would they be?

All of your resources are online and you are able to download and print the resources for your own reference. You do not require any other textbooks, however we do recommend that you either purchase interior magazines, get a subscription to an interior magazine that you love or go to your local library to view them.

I have already completed some study – will I get Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)?

If you have completed any study with another training provider you may be eligible for RPL. You will be required to complete an RPL form and provide evidence of your prior study/results.

Are there any site visits to showrooms etc included in the online course?

No. We provide you with a list of product suppliers. We strongly encourage all of our students to get out and about and check out as many of these suppliers and showrooms as possible in their area.

Do online students receive the same career services as “on campus” students?

Yes. Online students receive assistance from our Career Coach with resume preparation and sourcing opportunities in the industry.

English is not my first language, can I apply?

If English is not your first language, your English skills must be strong to complete this course. You will need to have scored at least 6.5 in the International English Language Testing System test (www.ielts.org).

Am I able to defer my studies?

Students may apply to defer a unit of study by making a request in writing to the General Manager at info@interiordesignonline.edu.au

What happens if I am unable to complete my studies?

Students who do not complete a full qualification will receive a Statement of Attainment listing the completed competencies at the time of advice of withdrawal or non-completion

Can I apply for a VET Student Loan?

Sorry, a VET Student Loan is only available to those enrolling into a Diploma course at our physical campus, Sydney Design School.

Can I complete the Cert IV online and then start the Diploma?

Yes, you can complete the Certificate IV online and then apply for a credit transfer into the Diploma of Interior Design and Decoration (MSF50213).
